Technology Concepts Group International (TCGi) is excited to announce that its CEO, Avis Yates Rivers, will be making an appearance on the TV show, On The Money which will air on CNBC this weekend (Feb 20th and 21st). You can check your local stations and times here.
In honor of Black History Month, the segment will explore why so few African Americans enter the field of Technology. It will feature the groundbreaking work of the organization Black Girls Code, an NCWIT K-12 Alliance member.
The numbers are startlingly low— in 2015, only 13 percent of the approximately 50,000 students who took the Advanced Placement Computer Science (AP-CS) exam nationally, were underrepresented minorities! Since that statistic includes both male and female students, the participation of black and Latina women is even lower.
As a member of the NCWIT (National Center for Women & Information Technology) board, increasing the meaningful participation of African American and Latina women in technology has become Avis’ mission.
